Bathroom Remodel: Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation
Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a bathroom remodel, installing new luxury vinyl plank flooring. The project was already in progress when I arrived—the new bathtub had been installed, but the old tile floor was still in place.
Before: Removing the Old Tile
The first step was removing the toilet, but as I lifted it, a bunch of tile came up with it. From there, I used a pry bar to remove the loose tiles and finished the job with a hammer drill to take up the remaining ones. Around that time, Steve from Steve’s Rolling Toolbox arrived and uninstalled the existing vanity, which allowed me to remove the tile underneath and take off the old tile baseboards. With all the old flooring removed, I swept the area thoroughly and cleared out the debris, ensuring a clean surface for the new flooring installation.
Prepping the Floor
Before laying the new vinyl plank, I applied a floor patch to level out a low spot and to repair a few areas where the hammer drill had slightly damaged the subfloor. This step was crucial to bring the floor within the required specifications for the new material. Once the patch dried, the surface was ready for installation.
Installing the New Luxury Vinyl Plank
With the prep work complete, I started laying the new luxury vinyl plank flooring, carefully fitting each piece to create a seamless look. After the flooring was in, Steve and I brought up the new vanity and positioned it in place. I then installed the new baseboards and applied white silicone along the tub where the vinyl plank meets it to ensure a clean, finished look and proper water resistance.
After: A Fresh, Modern Bathroom Floor
At this stage, my part of the job was complete. The plumber and electrician would come in later to finish their work, but the new flooring was down, and the bathroom was one step closer to being fully remodeled. This was a great project to be part of, and it’s always satisfying to see the transformation from old tile to a fresh, modern luxury vinyl plank floor.
